Trench Knife with This Gun for Hire and Sundran Show Jan 22, 2016
On Friday Jan 22nd, I ventured out to shoot a new client Trench Knife at Funky's in downtown Vancouver. I've got great memories from that venue as it's where I captured my first album credit shot for Trophy Wife. Also on the bill along with Trench Knife was This Gun for Hire and Sundran, both great acts if you get a chance to check them out. Trench Knife were a pleasure to shoot as they dominate the stage. The frontman has that old school Metal stage presence and control. The band is loud, in your face, and just plain and simple, RAW! I look forward to working with them again in the future!

Shooting in the studio
Recently I've started a new photo project working with local punk rockers, The Getmines who are recording their new album at Empire Records of Canada. Something I've always wanted to do is work with a band shooting and documenting the process from recording an album to playing it live! It's my own version of photo journalism in the underground punk scene that is very much still thriving in Vancouver.
Meeting Jesse Death who is the studio manager for Empire Records of Canada, and Connor, I settled in and quietly took a bunch of shots when Dave was scratching some guitar for the bed tracks. I managed to move about the studio without disturbing the process too much and interrupting Dave's concentration.
The studio is a little hole in the wall, but screams punk and grass roots recording.
There is this great vibe of creativity, filth, and disparity, that absolutely compliments the genre!
I'm looking forward to following The Getmines through the recording process and looking forward to maybe working with some other Empire Records of Canada artists. Either way, very cool little studio Jesse has and if you're a Punk or Rockabilly artist or band, contact them for rates and possibly signing to the label.
Happy New Year! All the best for 2016!
2015 was a busy year for me. Once again there was a move involved, some personal health issues with family members and other new prospects in the photography world!
I want to thank all the artists, musicians and bands that allowed me to shoot them this past year. It was great meeting new clients, reconnecting with previous ones, and of course networking with other photogs, venue staff, owners, and promoters! Thank you all for the referrals, support and most of all friendship. Some of my most memorable shoots this year are from:
Servo, No Operator, Quartered, Ugly Men, Exes for Eyes, The Mac, Clay Ravens, Shindiggers,
The Remedy, Prism, Headpins, Robert Graves Band, Intoxicated By Nature, Franklins Dealers,
The Omen Effect, Shane Dean and Sally and the MeloHearts.
Special thanks goes out to Lisa Freakrock, Kevin Stuart Swain, Hamish MacDonald, Sally Melo, Louie Anyos, Dave Young, Kevin at Rednyne Productions, Clyde Hill from Magnetized Productions, The staff at The Hard Rock Casino, Staff at Donegals Pub, all the Jammers and supporters of live music!
Most of all I would like to thank my partner, Cindy Fraiberg for assisting with many shoots, putting up with my late night shooting and editing schedules, and encouraging me to channel my artistic needs through a lens! Also want to thank my kids for whom I breath each day! Hopefully at some point they will think what I'm doing is sorta cool! LOL.
Here's to the next year and all the future may bring! Cheers!
